At the 183rd we believe Scouting is about being with friends, working as part of a team, learning new skills, participating fully in the adventure and opportunities of life.
Please look at our frequently asked questions (FAQs) for more information about joining the group or you can visit our section pages: Beavers Cubs Scouts
Q) Are all adults Disclosure Scotland checked?
A) Yes, all adults are Disclosure Scotland checked. This includes all adult leaders, group executive members, sectional assistants and occasional helpers.
Q) How much does it cost?
A) We charge subscription fees of £85 per year. Subs cover national Scout insurance, hall rental costs, capitation fees and some programme activities. Camping and other activities are charged at cost. For example a weekend camp will cost approximately £40.
Q) Are the Leaders paid?
A) The leaders are all volunteers. They are using their spare time to provide activities and opportunities for members of the Group and will often need help and support from parents.
Q) When do the sections meet?
A) All the sections meet regularly, once a week, during term times. There will also be opportunities to take part in other events throughout the year at weekends and in the holidays, for example camps and day trips.
Q) When should I buy uniform?
A) When a young person joins a section we advise that the uniform is only purchased when he is ready to make his promise (usually after 3 to 4 weeks). When a member moves from one section to another he may wear his old uniform until he acquires his new uniform.”
Q) Where can I buy a uniform?
A) You can purchase uniforms at Scout Shops Online or at the Glasgow Scout Shop. Details of opening times can be found on their website. If you have any problems, please talk to your section leader.
Q) When will I be invested?
A) Most beavers, cubs and scouts are invested about a month after first joining, usually on the last night of the programme so that parents can come and see the investiture and take embarrassing photos.
Q) What information do I need to give the Leader about my child?
A) You will be asked to give some basic information when your child joins. This is to make sure we can keep your child safe. It includes emergency contact details and details of any medical conditions, allergies etc. which the Leader needs to be aware of. Please remember to tell the Leader if there any changes, for example if your child starts taking medication or develops an allergy.
